Civil War II by Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez tries to leverage the success of the Movie and brings us this story that is shallow, fails to deliver epicness on key moments and the resolution of the plot leave us empty handed. It’s like eating an Hamburger. You enjoy it but doesn’t have enough proteins.
Sadly, you see the influence of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Lot of jokes , like the one’s we see ( and love) in the movies. We see a lot of heroes, but too crowded for me. For instance, Old man Logan, Thor…their appearance is unnecessary. If you are going to use those big bad-ass characters, I expect them to be part of the story and not mere puppets for scoring a big sale.
It’s an easy read, the art is great. If you are looking for splash pages where you can copy for favorite superhero, go for it. We have good splash pages, full of action and scenes that will make you gasp. The problem of reading it in a TPB is I couldn’t fully open the book to see the splash pages to its totality.
To be honest, this is a book I won’t read again. This is a book I will give to my kid to copy drawings.
If you are a completist and you absolutely need to have it, I understand you. We have all been there, is no need to be ashamed of :)
